INDUCTION SERVICE.
WEST TAIERI PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. REV. DAVID CAMPBELL THE NEW MINISTER. The West Taieri Presbyterian Church held a large congregation, despite the unfavourable weather, on Thursday evening, when the Dunedin Presbytery met to induct the Rev. David Campbell to the pastoral charge of West Taieri. The Rev. Dr Camming (moderator) conducted the opening exercises and the Rev. D. Calder, of Mosgiel, preached tho occasional sermon from the text "The Lord shall light my candle.” After a careful outline of the steps which led to the call to the new minister, the induction was proceeded with. The Moderator put the prescribed questions of obligation to pastor and people, and after the usual ceremony declared the Rev. David Campbell inducted. The Rev. Wm. Trotter, of Mornington, addressed the minister, and •he congregation was addressed by the Rev. E. J. Tipler, of Roslyn. After the religious service a short welcome social was held. This was presided over by the Rev. D. Calder, who voiced the cordial welcome of the people to their new minister. The speaker premised Mr Campbell the support of the people and looked forward to a ministry of helpfulness and of real spiritual power. The Rev. Dr Gumming and the Rev. J, Kilpatrick welcomed the new minister on behalf of the Presbytery, and Captain Armstrong, of the Salvation Army, voiced the welcome of the local ministers. Replying, Mr Campbell said that the unanimity and the heartiness ,of the call had made it quite clear to him that ho should come to ’ West Taieri. He believed there was the opportunity for good work, and he looked forward 1 to many years of service in the church. Under the guidance of Messrs Harrison and M'Bryde, the choir rendered two anthems, and a solo was sung by Miss South, gate. Mrs M'Bryde and Mr Walker sang a duet. The opportunity was taken by the Ladies’ Guild to present Mr J. Bathgate with. a watch guard to mark their appreciation of the fine work he had done in beautifying the grounds of the Outram Church. iOn behalf of the church also Mr Marshall presented tho Rev. D. Calder with a cheque. Mr Calder’s supervision of the charge during the vacancy bad been marked by skill and care, and the committee of the church was grateful to him.
