DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. There has, towards the end of the week, been a marked slackening in the demand for war bonds on the Dunedin Stock Exchange. Yesterday’s market closed with a fall in * of the selling quotations, and with an almost entire absence of buyers Alter the caU yesterday afternoon a sale of 5J per .cent. Soldiers’ Settlement Bonds (1933) was reported at £lOl. A week ago this line was no. available at less than £lO2 3s 6d. Mining ehares have also experienced weaker inquiry. Waihis were available yesterday at 268 without attracting a buyer above 25s 7d, and tho offer for Nokomais has during the last few days rested at 3s 6d. Two parcels oi Waihis were turned over on Wednesday at 26s whereas they realised 26s 3d on h riday of ’last week. Banking shares have, if anything, eased slightly, and have not been as active as during previous weekly periods or late. There were sales on Wednesday and Thursday of the new issue of Bank of New Zealand shares at 50s 3d and 50s respectively. On Wednesday there was a reported sal© of Bank of New South Wales shares .which were sought yesterday at £4O 15s, and at £4l ss. Insurances have been quiet, and without alteration in price. A sale of Standards at 28s was reported on Wednesday, and after the afternoon caH on Thursday there was a reported sale of Nationals at 77s 6d. Shipping shares have attracted a fair amount of .attention, and the business transacted lias been quite up to the average Two parcels of Huddart, Parker (ord.) were turned over at 42s on Wednesday, and tho same day two sales of Union Steam Ship Company (pref.) shares were reported at 20s 6d. Coal and loan and agency shares have not shown much prospect of business, but in meat preserving lines there has been a good deal of activity. The contributing issue of New Zealand Refrigerating Company shares has fallen back a little, having been sold at 12s on Monday and at 11s lOd on Wednesday. There was'also a reported sale at 12s on the latter occasion. Of Gear Meats there was a reported sal© at 41s on Monday,_ and there has since been fairly regular inquiry at that figure. In miscellaneous lines brewery debentures and shares have hardened somewhat and on Thursday there was a sale aud a reported sale of the former at £lO2 10s. Sales of Auckland Gas (new issue) at 3s 6d, of D. 1,0. (pref., cum div.) at 21s 3d, and of Bruce AVoollens at 38s 6d were also reported on Thursday, and yesterday a parcel of Milburn Lime and Cement shares was released at 365. Sale yesterday'.
