In the unavoidable absence of the president (Mr J. L. Salmon), Mr E. H. Calder (vicepresident) commented on the satisfactory improvement that the club had made recently. He trusted tennis players generally, and Roslyn in particular, would assist the young players to improve in the game. He" mentioned that Wellington had spent £20,000 on tennis grounds, and also that Christchurch had as many as 20 clay courts in one club, and trusted the lawn tennis players of Dunedin would be suitably catered for by the municipal authorities. He had pleasure in declaring the new season opened, and hoped that the social element would be as much in evidence as in the past. Mrs Salniond subsequently entertained the members and visitors.
