The Pacific Cable Board is considering the duplication of the cable between 1 iji and Bamfield, and is awaiting its engineer’s report before finally deciding the question.—A. and N.Z. Cable. Mr J. W. Milward, manager in Australia of the Pacific Cable Board, staled some little time ago that the recently completed cable duplication from Bondi to Southport, Brisbane, and then from I iji to Auckland, would provide an alternative route to every station between 1 iji and Sydney. The duplication of the fine from Fiji, via Fanning Island, to Bamfield, a Canadian station, would be undertaken later, when the tests with regard to the new type of submarine cable to oe laid over this distance have been completed. When the scheme has been perfected the rates for cable messages on this route may fall. The inventor of the new class of cable claims that it will increase the speed ten times.
