Largo numbers of troops are engaged in fighting forest fires, which have already devastated largo areas in the Var coastal districts, and have destroyed the thermal station at Mandelieu.—Reuter. MANY PERSONS MSSSING. ROADS THRONGED WITH REFUGEES. PARIS, August 19. (Received Aug. 20, at 7.40 p.m.) Tho forest fires destroyed the Cannes Golf Club and the racecourse buildings. The railway communications were broken. Numbers of people are missing, and refugees are pouring into Cannes. Troops continue to fight the flames, which are rapidly spreading. The roads are thronged with people pushing carts laden with their belongings.—A. and N.Z. Cable. The Var Department is in the South of Francea'on the Mediterranean.
