IRISH IMMIGRANTS. DISCRIMINATION DENIED. PreM Association—By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, June 26. Mr Bruce declares that there is no truth in the cabled statement that the Commonwealth is declining to accept Irish immigrants under the terms of the Overseas Settlement Act. He says that no discrimination is shown in collecting immigrants for Australia. THE IRISH ENVOYS. SERVED WITH DEPORTATION PAPERS. SYDNEY, June 26. (Received June 26, at 10.40 p.ra.) The Irish envoys were again before the court on a charge of sedition, and wore discharged after "a further week’s remand was refused to the Crown. Subsequently O’Kelly and Father O’Flannagan were arrested outside the court and served with Federal deportation orders, and formally taken into custody pending deportation. MILD INFLUENZA IN SYDNEY. SYDNEY, June 26. The health authorities report that, while influenza of a mild type is prevalent, there are no signs of pneumonic cases.— A. and N.Z. Cable. NEW SOUTH WALES’S SURPLUS. SYDNEY, oune zb. It is understood that the State Treasury estimates the surplus at upwards .of £500,000 on the figures to hand for the past year. THE SUGAR AGREEMENT. BRISBANE, June 26. Reports from various parts of Queensland indicate that the sugar growers are prepared to accept Mr Bruce’s proposals, but they will do so under strong protest. Some days ago Mr Theodore (Premier of Queensland) telegraphed Mr Brnco, Prime Minister, on behalf of the sugargrowers, seeking a modification of the commonwealth’s proposals in the direction of ensuring a certain price—£27 a ton — for two years, with a tribunal to determine the price in the third year, but Mr Bruce refused to vary the proposed agreement.
