(Received Juno 26, at 8.10 p.m.) The opening of the Wimbledon lawn tennis championship was most disappointing. Rain prevented play on the centre court till 5 o’clock. The most interesting result was Godfreo’s victory over Mishu, I—6, 6—4, o—6, 6 —2, 9—7. E. 0. Anderson, a brother of the famous Sydneyite, scratched first round to Alderson, the Yorkshire champion. Mnvrogordato heat Sayers (an Australian), 6—3, 6—3, 6—o.—A. and N-Z. Cable. A feature of the Kent championships a fortnight ago was the performance of the 18-year-old former schnolbov champion, H. K.' Lester, in seriously extending W. M. Johnston, who won 6—3, 7 —5. Lester drove hard, and his excellent cross shots kept Johnston on the move.
