Ministerial. The Hen. Mr Guthrie has greatly improved in health during the past week (says our Wellington correspondent). He will leave his home in a day or two for Auckland, and then proceed on a South Sea Island cruise. His colleagues are hopeful that on his return he will be able to resume his Ministerial duties. Mr D. Murchison, of Queenstown, is at present in Dunedin. Mr C. J. Indcr has been reappointed a member of the Otago Land Board. Sub-inspector Eccles, who has been suffering from influenza, has resumed duty. Mr A. Simson, Mayor of Queenstown, who has been visiting Wellington, is spending a few days in Dunedin before returning home.

31 r J. R. Kirk, of Gisborne, is paying a visit to Dunedin after attending the sittings of the Council of Education. Tho Rev. 11. Parata is at present in town in connection with the campaign for raising funds for the late Bishop Novill memorial. Some anxiety is being felt by the friends of Chief Detective Bishop, who has been confined to his bed, and whose condition is now reported to be somewhat serious. Mr N. W. Robins, who has proceeded to Christchurch to join the staff of the D.1.C., has been appointed secretary. By inadvertence it was stated that he would assume tho position of manager.

The appointment of Mr R. Burton as a trustee of the Maheno Public Cemetery, of Mr G. Hunter as a trustee of the Wyndham Public Cemetery, and ot Messrs N. Stewart and F. Toomey as trustees of tho Waikouaiti Public Cemetery has been gazetted. Mr T. E. Donne, who has for a considerable number cf years been chief secretary in tho High Commissioner’s office in London, is vacating that position, the duties of which will now bo undertaken by Mr Crabbe. who recently paid a visit to the dominion and has just returned to London. Cr Carolin, who is at present suffering from a severe illness, was granted leave of absence by last night’s meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council. A motion of sympathy with the councillor was also passed. Mr W. Freeman, who has been on the literary staff of the Wellington Evening Post for many years, and who has latterly been doing the parliamentary work for that paper, will leave shortly to take up an appointment on the Sydnev Morning Herald. Mr L. 11. Osborn, who for tho past 12 years has been manager of the Otago and Southland branch of the State Fire Office, has received notice of his promotion to the position of manager of the Wellington branch. Mr Osborn will leave for the north on Thursday to take up his new duties. During tho jubilee celebrations at tho Oavershnm Baptist Church on Sunday mornin"-, the Rev". Eric Evans, on behalf of the’ congregation, presented tho Rev. Chas. Dallaston, a former pastor of tho church, with a silver-mounted umbrella as a memento of the occasion.
