Chicago is the windy city, and Pittsburgh is the grimy city, and Boston is the. learned city; but New York is the city of swank. There may be a corner in Chicago that the wind neglects, or some little surface in Pittsburgh that coal dust has not yet discovered; but swank pervades New York from the Bronx to the Bowery and back again. It is built into her very paving-stone. The air that feeds her is thick with it. The New York Times makes this confession. Shoplifters seem to be making London retailers increasingly uneasy. At one ' large store customers on leaving after completing their purchase are handed a paper to be given to an official at the door. Without.this passport apparently their exit from the premises would be prevented. In /this matter the War Office seems to have taught the business world something. f'or influenza, take Woods’ Great Peppermint Cure. —Advt, /
