Cold and showery weather again continued yesterday, when steady rain fell, particularly in the evening. Since the wet spell set in the rainfall as recorded at the Pumping Station, Musselburgh, at 9 a.m. daily has been as follows:—2lst, ,370 i- 22nd .740 in; 23rd. ,090 in; 24th, .255 in; 25th. .055 in a total of l.Sldin. Hie Main Trunk express arriving this morning passed through heavy snows between Kauriimi and Waimarino, and north of Taihape. There was a landslip of a thousand tons of earth on Sunday morning this side of the Newmarket tunnel. A large gang cleared the railway line and prevented serious interruption of the traffic.
