FINANCIAL POSITION. The total income of the institute for the year amounted to £24,662 13s 6d, which shows an increase compared with 1921 of £awu. After taking all life subscriptions and entrance fees as income, the accounts for the year show a credit balance of £854, and as the cost of alterations consequent on providing luncheon room and a room for ladies was paid out of revenue, the result of the year’s work may be considered satisfactory, Ihero is still a deficit on previous years of £llOO to wipe out. Ihe total amount received or promised for the new premises and Jubilee Fund at J he ye ? r was £49,700, against £47,733 at the end of 1921. During the year the most notable donation was £IOOO from the late Mr Lewis Haslam, M.P Beyond this the response has been slight. A most successful demonstration was organised m Hyde Park, and numerous speakers addressed the audience from six platforms.

TRADE AND INDUSTRY COMMITTEE. The Trade and Industry Committee (presided over effectively by the late Hon. J. G. Jenkins) maintained its activities during the year, but severe depression was naturally reflected in its work. At the same time a spirit of quiet confidence and hopefulness has been apparent, and with 1 the change in Government and the publicity which i s being given to the proposed Empire Economic Conference, once again has interest been stimulated in ifiter-Imperial trade, an interest which the institute through its Trade and Industry Committee has been steadily fostering since its inception. The impetus which has been given to migration within the Empire has been reflected m. the very large number of inquiries received for particulars of the con ditions prevailing in various parts of the empire. By virtue of its unique position as an unbiassed body, the committee is able to offer advice and assistance to intending settlers, and the fullest advantage is taken of these facilities.
