The wonderful recuperative powers of the Marlborough district are well demonstrated by a motor tour of the areas which were inundated last week (says the Express). In all directions the settlers have buckled to with a will. Already fences which were flattened by the flood have been re-orectcd. and the most obvious traces of the disaster have been obliterated in all but the worstaffected spots. Most Remarkable of all, rich young grass is to be observed in various localities pushing its way through the silt deposits. In some places the rich top soil has been wnshedteway over large areas of hitherto verdant farms, leaving the useless grave! sub-strata exposed, and some farms have literally been swept clean.
