"LONG CHOOSING."

THE PRINCE CARICATURED A REMARKABLE CARTOON. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, May 29. Tho Daily Express protests against an extraordinary cartoon of the Prince of Wales in Mr Max Beerbohm’s exhibition at tho Leicester Galleries. The Prince is represented as a wretched old man, white-haired, standing forlornly before a table in a registry efface, and looking disconsolately at his bride, a woman dressed in gaudy clothes. His suit of coarse worsted hangs like a sack. The picture is entitled “Long Choosing: Beginning Late.” Mr Beerbohm adds an inscription, purporting to be an extract from a newspaper dated November, 1972, whicn reads:

An interesting wedding was e quietly celebrated at the registry office, when Mr Edward Windsor was united to Miss Flossie Pearson. The bridegroom, as many of our readers will recall, was at one time the well-known Heir Apparent to the late King George. He lias for some time past been in residence at Balmoral. The bride, who is still on the sunny side of 40, is tho daughter of his landlady.

The Exjtftss comments; “Mr Beerbohm as a rule is humurous, but in this case his humour has deserted him. The public does not object to good-humoured caricatures ; but when one takes the Heir Apparent to the Throne and lampoons him it is doubtful whether the public will relish the effort.”—A. and N.Z. Cable.
