SIXTY YEARS AGO
Daily Times Office, Friday evening. It is now some weeks, since wo have had any rain, and the brilliancy of,the weather has operated against some interests. lhe diggers have been disappointed. ino gradual rise of the rivers, from the melting of the snows, so unusual at this season ot the year, has driven them from their claims. The roads have dried up, which, together with a cessation of demands for up-country purposes, make the present price of carriage not sufficiently remunerative. _ lhe storekeepers and many parties of miners stocked themselves to the extent in many instances of their credit in reasonable anticipation of winter weather, and the reported competition at present existing at the Dunstan cannot be wondered at. No stocks of goods have been forwarded for the last month and few are at present en route, so that, with consumption going on, there cannot be any reasonable grounds for submitting to any reduction of prices at the Dunstan, involving a loss, especially as they are so farm here. .
