SIR HENRY PARKES ANNIVERSARY. SYDNEY, May 29. The hundred and eighth anniversary of the birth of Sir Henry Parkes was celebrated by the National Club. Sir Joseph Carouthers, Minister of Education in trie last Parkes Ministry, was the chief speaker. A BOY SMOTHERED. EVIDENCE OF FOUL PLAY. SYDNEY, May 29. (Received May 29, at 10.5 p.m.) The body of Percival Carratt, aged five, was found in the scrub near his parents' residence at Arncliffe. Death had been caused by smothering. The boy had been sent an errand to a shop a short distance from his home, and his prolonged absence caused a search to be made. The police state that there is no doubt that the child was taken to the spot where he was found and asphyxiated by the pressure. of a hand round the throat. PREMIERS' CONFERENCE. TAXATION PROPOSALS. MELBOURNE, May 29. (Received May 29, at 10.5 p.m.) The Premiers' Conference resumed consideration of the taxation proposals in camera. It is unofficiallv stated that an agreement has been peached under which the States will tax private incomes and tho commonwealth will tax companyprofits.
