CANTERBURY PRgDUCE MARKETS. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 23. As the digging of potatoes proceeds the extent of the damage by the floods is being n'.ore correctly approximated, and results are showing no improvement on the previous reports. GradeTS at Lyttelton are having a difficult timo with consignments coming to hand, and with the lethargic movements of boats, there is no certainty that even passed potatoes will arrive in Auckland in anything like sound order. The Kaitoke, due to leave early this week, will not now sail until Friday, one cause of the delay being that it 13 holiday somewhere or another in the North Island, and it is n. 3 cheap to hold n vessel in Lyttelton for a day as elsewhere. Fairly large quantities of potatoes ore going to Lyttelton, but the rejections are very heavy. There ia no certainty as to the Kuitoke'a quantity, although it is understood that last week's estimate of 7000 sacks will be near the mark—that is. if the proportion of rejections gets no heavier. The Whangape . leaves on June 2, and a third vessel towards the end' of next week. Over the fortnight, represented by these sailing?, it is estimated that up to 20,000 sacks will be shipped. A proportion of the sales has taken I place at £8 per ton, at country stations, for prompt delivery, but morchanis arc generally offering £7 10s to £7 15s for whiles and to £7 5s for reds. The merchants' basis of business with Auckland is up to ±'9 10s, f.0.b., sacks in, for prompt delivery, and up to £lO 10s for July-September delivery. Chaff is a shade easier, doubtless due to the report that Auckland has bought 1000 tons of " dumped" chaff from Australia. Oat 3 aTe inclined to be firmer, with no change to report in values. The pea market is very strong, sales having been made at up to 83 6d, f.0.b., equal to 7s 6d to 7s 9d at country stations. The remarkable firming of the Home market ha 3 been unexpected in local circles. Millers are buying wheat freely, and the standard has been slightly relaxed. Fowl wheat is firm at 4s, at country stations. > SHEEPSKIN MARKET REPORT.
