OTAGO FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The weekly meeting of the executive' of the Otago Football Association held last evening, Mr E. J. Anderson (president) occupying the chair. ■ MS BROWN’S CASE. Messrs J. Deuchrass and L. Rutherford asked that it be recorded in the minutes, of the last meeting that they objected to the chairman's ruling in the case of Mr H, Brown, the Seacliff delegate. The Cliairman pointed out that the - minutes were supposed to be a report of what had actually happened at a meeting. As Messrs Deuchrass and Rutherford had not then aeked for their dissenting votes to be recorded, he did not think it should , be done. d ' The question was put to the meeting, and. it wan decided not to amend the minutes;.' Mr H. Brown - forwarded to the assocra-’ tion an appeal which he asked to be sent, . to the New Zealand Association. , ■ It was decided to forward the appeal, -ur d 1 MAORI HILL—MOUNT ZION MATCH. Mr W. Clarkson, referee in the Mount Zion-Maori Hill match, which was playei on May 19 wrote pointing out that ho would have explained the matter to the last meet-' ing cf tho association, only he did not think the Maori Hill team intended-.' to' appeal. He continued: —“Mount Zion were awarded a comer kick, I was standing onthe goal-line, ISin outside the goal post.: when the kick was taken by Tomer, and’ , the boll was headed by Robertson. It was .going past the sido of my leg when I tried to swing out of tho road of the ball. It lilt the inside of my knee, and was deflected . into the net. If it had net hit my kneo there was no chance of it going into the; i net, there being no player near enough to touch it before it went over the line, so X ruled it ‘no ball.’" s ' Mr Deuchrass moved that the letter bn received, and the match be counted as a drawn game. If it were declared null and, void, and Maori Hill had again to .go to Kaitangata, it would be for the third time-, Mr Smith seconded. . J Mr Cameron doubted that tho association had power to do that. He had no doubt .that there had been a wrong decision on the part of the referee. He moved as 911 amendment that the match be declared null, and void, and replayed at the end of tho ■ season if necessary. . ■ Mr M'Gillivray seconded. . ,“ vj The Chairman mentioned that if it war®, necessary to replay the match it would pro-,' bably be in the form of a semi-final, and ; then the association would have power to bring Kaitangata to Dunedin. Mr Crawford said that he thought the Maori mill Club would rather see the match 1 ' drawn than again go down to Kaitangata; Mr Milbum aaid that Maori Hill should have notified the referee and the opposingteam before leaving the field that it intended -1 to protest. Its protest was not in order:’ ‘ , The Chairman said that they, themselves had put the protest in order by considering . it at their last meeting. While tho rules stated that a team should notify the referee,- . and the opposing sido before leaving the field of its intention to protest, it was not. absolutely necessary to do so, - ;‘ Mr Cameron's amendment was lost. Mr E. Anderson asked if it were fair to penalise a team for the referee’s failure .to understand a rule. Ho thought that tho matter should have been mentioned to tho" referee at the time, and moved as an amendment that the protest be dismissed. ■ ■>. ;; A show of hands was taken, and tho' chairman had to use his casting vote, bywhich the amendment •was carried. The motion, as amended, was then carried, Mr Crawford intimating that he intended to appeal to the New Zealand, Association. Several members asked for their dissenting - votes to be recorded.
