QUEENSLAND ELECTIONS
LABOUR IN THE ASCENDANT. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyrignt BRISBANE, May 13. After a strenuous election campaign the State elections were held yesterday in fine weather and passed off quietly. The issue was practically confined to Labour versus anti-Labour. Mr Theodore’s preelection forecast that Labour would retain command with a majority not less than eight appears - from the early figures as likely to be fulfilled, though most returns aro still incomplete. Labour appears to have won 38 seats, the United Party 16, and the Country Party five scats. In the remaining 15 Labour is leading in seven constituencies and the Country Party in the balance. The last Parliament consisted of 37 Labour members, 24 representing the Country Party, and 11 Nationalists. Since the dissolntion the United Party has been formed, consisting of Nationalists and a section of the Country Party. Both sections of the Country Party are, however, antiLabour.
