The Prince of Wales, in unveiling the British memorial in »the presence of a huge crowd, asked King Albert to accept, on behalf of his subjects, the monument offered by the British nation symbolising Great Britain’s profound and unalterable gr.atitude towards those who succored her prisoners of war and distressed soldiers. The monument would perpetuate the memory of a glorious brotherhood m arms. King Albert, in replying, said that Belgium would never forget the sublime sacrifices of the British soldiers who made the Ypres salient an unshakable bastion m the Allied line. The monument for ever would illustrate the heroism of the British race. The Prince of Wales was given a ban quet at the palace, axing Albert thanked the British Empire for the monument, which, he said, was a, reaffirmation of a long-standing friendship,• on which Belgium could always rely.
