WHAKATANE RETURNS TO PORTr

WELLINGTON, April 30. Hie Whakatane, which left Wellington at 7 a.m. yesterday for Avonmouth, put back at 1 o’clock this .morning, having developed engine trouble.’ Shortly after noon yesterday it was discovered that the port refrigerating engine, upon which repairs had been carried out-while the vessel was completing her loading,. had developed trouble, caused by , the condenser. The extent of the damage was not known early this afternoon, but the liner will leave on Wednesday for Avonmouth.
