FIXED DATE FOR EASTER.

INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

(Feom Oue Own Correspondent.) LONDON, March 17. In February, 1921, Lord Desborough introduced a Bill into the House of Lords with the object of fixing the date for Easter throughout Christian countries. In the course of the debate the Archbishop of Canterbury expressed his ' sympathy with the object of the Bill. The subject was discussed in the Roman Catholic organ, the Tablet, and it was evident that that church also approved of a fixed Easter. So far as the Bill itself was concerned, the Archbishop of Canterbury moved an amendment that the Bill should not be proceeded with until the views of Christian Churches throughout Europe were ascertained, together with the views of civil authorities and educational interests. An adjournment pf the debate was then ag-reed to. In furtherance of this innovation the London Chamber of Commerce is submitting a resolution to be moved by Lord Desborough at tbe Congress of the International Chamber of Commerce at Rome next wek. Mho resolution reads as follows:—-“That whereas the desirability of fixing the dale of Easter in the interests of all sections of the community \ has been repeatedly affirmed by Chambers of Commerce individually and collectively at various congresses and conferences for many years past, it be an instruction to the executive of the International Chamber of Commerce to take all possible steps towards the accomplishment of this long-delayed reform by international agreement.”
