HAWKE’S BAY RACES. (Feu United 1-hesh Association.) HASTINGS, April 30. Beautiful weather favoured the second day of the Hawke’s Bay autumn moisting. The attendance was largo and the going was good. The sum of £21,561 was put through the machine, as compared with £21,173 on the second day last year. For the meeting the totalisator handled £41,686, as compared with £40,941 last year—an increase of £752. Results! KAKAMU HU RUBES. One mile and three-quarters.—Vagabond, 10.13 (A. H. Burt), 1; Mountain Peer, 2; Powder King, 3. Also started: Master Oriflamme. Tahumata. Mountain Peer was first to show out, but Powder King soon displaced him. Passing the stand the order was: Powder King, Master Oriflamme, Mountain Peer. Tahumata, Vagabond. ’’ Going round the Southland road bend Vagabond took up the running, and Mountain Peer went up further. Rounding the railway bend Powder King was finished with, leaving the race to Mountain Peer and Vagabond. A great race down the straight' was won by Vagabond by one and a-hulf lengths, with three lengths between second and third. Time, 3min 15 l-ssec. APPRENTICE PLATE HANDICAP. One milo and a furlong.—Megan, 7.3 (C. Tricklebank), 1; Good Mark, 2; Queen’s Perry, 3. Also started: Theic, Slave Mart, Maunga, Suspicion, Munus, Roamer, Miss Garange, Bonomel. Going out of the straight Megan was leading from Theic. Running along; the back ; Megan was still loading, with Slave Mart, Good Mark, and' Theic close up. Meganmaintained the lead up to the finish and won by a length, with the same distance between ’ second and third. Time, Imin 57seo.

JUVENILE HANDICAP. Five furlongs. —Misgovern, 8.12 (A. J. M'Flynn), 1; Kilris, 2; All Gold, 3. Also started: Orofino, Pali, Claudhu, Velvet King. Orofino and Misgovern went to the front, All Gold being left. Misgovern was in the lead coming into the straight, and, going on, won nicely by one and a-half lengths, with a length between second and third. Time, Imin 2 4-5 seo.

J. D. ORMOND MEMORIAL GOLD GUP. One mile. —King’s Trumpeter, 9.4 (R. Reed), 1; Sunart,' 2; Kick Off, 3. Also started: Bumpfious and Haurangi. Sunart went out the best-backed, with King’s Trumpeter next in demand. King’s Trumpeter was the first to find his feet, with Haurangi next. Bumptious went up on even terms with the leaders at the back, and then King’s Trumpeter dropped back. Sunart .improved hisi position at the railway bond, being on King’s Trumpeter’s heels at the turn for home. A great race ensued down the straight, King’s Trumpeter winning by -a head, with a length between second and third. Time, Imin 41sec. BURKE MEMORIAL STAKES HANDICAP. One mile and a-quarter.—Zouave, 7.3 (H. Gilmore), 1; Little River, 2; Grotesque, 3. Also started: Correspondent, Golden Light, Askari, The Speaker, Bonnetter, Kaotane. Going out of the straight Askari was leading Zouave, Grotesque, and Little River. Along the back stretch Askari -was still in the lead, with Correspondent moving up on the outside. Askari was first into the straight, hut when it came to business faded away and Zouave won nicely by three lengths, with the third horse a neck away. Time, 2min 6 2-osec.

OKAWA HANDICAP. Six furlongs.— Barrier, 7.6 (H. Dunn), 1; Civilform, 2; Miss Martian, 3. Also started: Chimera,' Miss Roseland, Mireusonta, Joy Ride, Crown Gem, Mireusonta was the first to show out, with Civilform and Joy Ride next. Mireuaonta led" to the straight, whore Civilform took the lead. In a great set-to between Bariior and Civilform, Barrier prevailed by a head, with the same distance between second and third. Going out of the straight Mosthenes led Orawai and Comical. Along the back Queen’s Ferry ran into fourth place. Mosthenes was first into the straight, with Ovawai at her girth. An examination of the Forbury Park track ■at a late hour yesterday afternoon showed that the flood waters had receded, and. the full width of the racing circuit, with • a continuation of the existing fine weather, will bo in working order within the next 24 hours At present the going is quite good and dry within Gft of the inside rail, and aa this margin will bo harrowed it wall soon bo fit for training end racing operations. The flood waters did not penetrate beyond an inch or so below tbs surface, and with anything like favourable weather conditions the track will be in good order for the meeting.
