The Chief Justice, Sir Robert, Stout, returned from Invercargill last evening. Mr A. ,J. Deaker, a member of tho stuff of the Southland Boys’ High School, has received advice that he has passed tha final section of the B. A. -'degree examination.

Auckland, where ho has been attending tne conference of engineer# Mr Alan Jackson, of Brantford, Canada, had proposed to return to that dominion by the Niagara, whieh leave*. ‘Auckland for Vancouver- next week, but Ho has found it necessary to postpone his departure from Dunedin.

Mr Gilbert Thompson, who belongs to Dunedin, and who is now associated with The Sydney Bulletin, is on a visit to England. A tew days ago (says our London correspondent, writing on January 26) he was one of tho principal guests at the luncheon given at the Trocadero by the London Commercial Club, over which Sir William Berry (one of the millionaire proprietors of Fleet street) presided. Tho same evening--Mr Thompson was the guest of Lord Beavorhrook, the proprietor of tho Daily Express at a dinner given at the Hyde Park Hotel.Mr and Mrs P. R. Sargood of Dunedin, left London on; January 25 for Marseilles to join tho Narkunda on their outward voyage, and they expect to reach New Zealand abut the middle of March. They have had a very pleasant stay in tho Country. Mias Sargood is remaining in England for some mouths longer as tho guest of Laxly Muriel Beokwitn, with whom she is having a very delightful lime in the country near Chichester, where she is enjoying golf, riding, and hunting, and is going to a number of hunt balls. - Last week (wrote our London correspondent on Tannery 26) she was among, the guests of the Duchess of Norfolk for the debut of her eldest daughter, Lady Rachel, Howard. ,
