OTAGO A. AND P. SOCIETY

The -various'sub-committees have been for some time busy revising the schedule for the Winter Show, and in several sections important recommendations ore now under consideration. Advance copies of the dairy produce section have been sent to all the factories, as entries for cheese and butter in the export section close on April 10. All exhibits in tills section have to be stored with the society in a cool store for about eight weeks previous to the show, so that when the oheeee is being judged it is in about the same condition as it would be if sent Home. In addition to the ordinary prises, which have been considerably in creased, the Waitaki Dairy Factory Company offers a challenge cup for the best two cheeses ini the show. Messrs Wilkin and Co., Ltd.. Invercargill, also offer a silver cup to the exhibitor gaining the highest aggregate number of points for two cheeses suitable for export. The committee has also under consideration a choesej edging competition during the show open to bona fide cheese factory managers and members of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association. In addition to the prizes which will be offered for this interesting competition, the conuiiittee hopes to obtain a suitable trophy as a first prize, and are now in cormnumcaUon with a firm in that direction.

At the request of the lecturer for agriculture for the Education Board, advance copies of the schedule are being sent 16 all schools where practical agricultural work is carried out, thus giving them ample time to grow and prepare their exhibits for the Winter Show.

Tiio committee has lost no time in; giving effect to several proposals suggested at the last monthly meeting, and have cammunioatod with the Dunedin Council and the St. Kilda Borough Council in reference to the proposal to divert the railway connection:. It is hoped that a conference will be held at an early date with the representatives appointed by these bodies in connection with this matter.

The Ocean Beach Domain Board has also boon communicated with, and the committee bas every confidence in being able to come to very satisfactory arrangements with that body for an extra area of (and which will be of considerable advantage to the society, and no doubt highly appreciated by those attending the show. The Executive, Finance, and Grounds Coumittecs meet on Monday to fully discuss Mr B. B. Couston’s report ns to the proposed expenditure at Tahuna Park. The general opinion amongst members is that no definite decision can bo arrived at on many of the proposals submitted until the question of being able to arrange for a railway connection direct on to • the grounds is definitely settled. If this can be satisfactorily arranged it will bo of great benefit to exhibitors, and will justify the committee in giving more favourable consideration to other proposals submitted. The ouestion whether Tahuna Park can bo made an up-to-date show ground mainy rests on what facilities can' bo offered to exhibitors, and the possibility of being able to unload and load nil stock on the grounds is of the utmost importance to all concerned. The meet-in'*- will also appoint five of its members to meet a similar number elected by the Advisory Committee to discuss nil matters which involve expenditure, outside the ordinary expenses incurred in running the society.
