MISS LEE WHITE

A NOTED VAUDEVILLE ARTISTE. In the course of a conversation’with Mr Clay Smith, a leading member of the “Bran Bio” Company, at present appearing at His Majesty's Theatre, some interesting particulars wore obtained concerning Miss Leo While, the principal lady of the company. On the stago Miss While has a charming personality, and that accounts, in part, for the way sho wholly won her audience over to her on her first appearance at His Majesty's Theatre. Dunedin It was ascertained in conversation that Miss White has a great record as a revue artiste, and has had numerous successes in the Old Country and_ elsewhere. In London, that city of criticism, her record stands particularly high. Miss White has filled no loss than 42 engagements in London, and has been a conspicuous artiste at the Alhambra Theatre, well known as the biggest place of entertainment in the great English metropolis. There sho was lead ing lady. From the Alhambra she went to°tho Strand Theatre, and afterwards underlook the management of the Ambassador Theatre, and produced two revues. ft was about this time that she appeared in the “Bran Pie” at the Prince of Wales Theatre. It. is, therefore, from the Prince of Wales Theatre that, the “Bran Pie comes, while the. revne that is to follow it at Ills Majesty’s, Dunedin, conies from the Duke of York Theatre. This, is “The Girl for the Boy,” which_ is spoken of very favourably. Miss White wears dresses seldom seen outside London. It may be mentioned that the last, dress she wears in “The Bran Pic" contains 20 yards of silk and tulle, and is one of the most handsome dresses seen on the stage, and is, of course, well sot off by Miss White. Mr Reville. of Hanover square, London, who is world known as a costumier, and very largely controls French fashions, has had much to do with the designing and making of Miss Lee While’s dresses. A theatrical ehreer for Miss White was first suggested through her winning a grand piano competition at college. Sho started on chorus work, and after a time ran her own tittle theatre in London. It is worthy of note that Miss White’s name has been rendered familiar through the medium, of the graphs phone, for which she has supplied many records. Miss White ha? lead in manv things, amongst others as manageress of a revue. When in Australia she was not able lo visit New Zealand ns sho was compelled to return to the Old Country, whence she had come, to take up _ vaudeville work. Since then Mi«s White has been to America, and came back again to Australia in 1920._ It was at the. last moment, when leaving Australia, that it was made possible for Miss White to extend her tour to New Zealand, owing to a favourable offer being made her. She has already appeared in Wellington for four weeks, and at Christchurch for two’ weeks, and has just opened a short season in Dunedin.
