SWIMMING CARNIVAL

ENJOYABLE OUTING AT DUBLIN BAY. The Swimming Carnival which was held on Saturday afternoon at Dublin Bay, a small inlet just past Macandrew’s Bay, was not a pretentious affair, but nevertheless it was greatly enjoyed by a number of competitors and also by a considerable crowd

of “seasiders” and visitors. The afternoon was pleasantly fiije, and with the spectators seated on the surrounding hills in the form of a natural amphitheatre and a generous display of bunting the scene was both picturesque and animated. Good entries were the

order of the day in 'the various cvnts, many of which were closely contested, notably the men's “championship.” The divjng provided an interesting exhibition. Variety was lent to the proceedings by some “land” events, including races for married men and married women, and the distribution of fruit, lollies, and ice-creams among the children ensured! their enjoyment. The carnival, which was promoted and run by several “week-enders” at Dublin Bay proved very successful, and similar functions might with

advantage be undertaken at some of tho other bays. The committee which directed the proceedings consisted of the following:—Messrs Charles Henderson (president), L. E. Brown (■secretary and treasurer), G. Kennelly, J. A. Brown, J. Kilmartin, J. Sims, G. Scott, tV. O. Brown, W. Butler, J. MtArthur, G. Caird, G. Bewley, and M. Bowers.
