GREEN ISLAND AFFAIRS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Many Green Island residents, liki myself, will bo agreeably surprised to fine that their council has nt last decided t< put a stop to the smell nuisance which in directly has reduced by many thousand of pounds the value of properties in th. community. Thero are businesses that an almost as big offenders as. that of tho un fortunate company which has been singlec out for reform, and it is to be hoped in justice to the unfortunate company men tioned, the hand of justice will not b stayed until every air-polluting and water polluting institution from the head wator of the Kaikorai Stream to the sea ar< made to dispose of its offensive matter ii a proper and up-to-date method. The ecc nomic side of the suggestion to plant th park in lupins will be appreciated by tli ratepayers, but personally I am of opinioi there are noxious weeds uncut and untendoi along the roadside to engage the attentio of the council's daymen. Lupins may b very nice on sandhills, but in a park ca be nothing more than unsightly clumps c boy-trampled weeds which would requir more money to keep in order than th council can afford. A nice line of wcepin, willbws along the creek side and. say, som plane trees or something of the kind alon tho fence would cost next to nothing an would look well and take very little look ing 'after. —I am, etc., Smeilpkoof. •Tanuarv 18.
