NEW FRENCH CONSUL.

ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND, (From Cub Own L’orbespondrnt.) AUCKLAND, January 17. 'l’lie new Consul-General for France in New Zealand, M. Raul Serre, arrived from Sydney by the Manuka. M. Scrre, who has come from Paris to take up the appointment, has been 26 years in the Consular service, his last, position being that, of Consul in Costa, Rica and Nicaragua. He had previously served in California. China, Java, Cuba. Porto Rico. Uruguay, Brazil, and Trinidad. He was Doiin for Ihroo yours of tho Consular body in Trinidad and Tobago. He is an official corresponding member of the French Ministry of Public Instruction. Academy of Agriculture and National Institute of Colonial Agronomy. A distinguished naturalist. M. Serro is one of associated members of the National Museum of National History in Paris. He has made numerous discoveries in natural history, the last one being in 1922 at Colon (Panama 1 , where he found new varieties of sea shells. For his scientific achievements ho has received nine decorations and 12 medals. Ho has written a number of books on natural history.
