The London County Council spend annually £23,000,000 of the ratepayers’ money, and controls the welfare, health, and amusement of more than 4,000,000 people. The average price realised at Devonshire House for pheasants, shot by the King and presented! by him to the Hospitals of London Combined Appeal, was £3 4s 6d a brace. Last year British railways carried 200,000.000 fewer passengers than in the previous year.
