OTAGO MOTOR CLUB
The ordinary meeting of the Otago Motor Club was held in the R.S.A. rooms last evening. Mr A. E. Ansoll (past-president) occupied tho chair. It was decided to make arrangements to tike the children from the Chatham Islands for a motor trip during their visit to Dunedin. It was decided to alter the date of (lie hill climb for cars and motor cycles to March 17.
The Chairman stated, in reply to a question, that he understood a motor car driver would ho quite within his rights in passing a stationary car on the near side, provided passengers were not boarding or alighting from it.—Mr Wood agreed that the chairman had stated tho position correctly.
It was decided to write to the Southland Club, and ask it to erect signposts at Edendale (near Wright, Stephenson’s corner), showing the way to Invercargill. On the motion of Mr W. Wright it was decided to write to the South Island Union and request it to take steps to have all the bridges in tho South island painted white.
Mr Wright mentioned that a Christchurch motorist had arrived in Dunedin at midday that day, having loft Christchurch at 3.30 a.m. The motorist had had to ride through rain all the way. Mr J. L. Passmore spoke of the difficulties and delay experienced in obtaining a rebate of the duty paid by a car owner who might visit Australia when he came to bring his car back to Now Zealand. It was decided to draw the attention of the South Island Union to the matter, to see if anything could bo done to arrive at a better arrangement regarding on expeditious refund of the duty paid. It was decided that the chairman and Mr Halliday (president) should meet representatives of I lie Taxi-drivers’ Association ami see if some arrangement could be come to to get the City Council to provide a parking place for private cars at the BaiJway Statiovj.
