VISIT TO SOUTH ISLAND ABANDONED. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 13. The American athletes m present in (he North Island will not, visit (lie South Island. After the Canterbury and Otago Centres of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association declined die dates proposed by the council for the team’s appearance in Christchurch and Dunedin tile only .South Island town left on the team’s itinerary was Invercargill. Subsequently the council asked the Canterbury Centre to arrange for die team to meet the Canterbury athletes next Friday afternoon, when the visitors would he on their wav back from Invercargill. The executive of die Canterbury Centre made the necessary arrangements, the time and plaee being fixed tips morning. However, the centre’s executive learned that the team will not visit the South Island, as the Invercargill trip’ has been abandoned. No reasons have been given yet for the arrangements not being continued.
