AUSTRALIAN LADIES’ SUCCESS. NEW ZEALANDERS OUTPLAYED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. January 12. The New South Wales ladies defeated the New Zealand ladies on (ho Thorndon courts to-day by eight ■ matches to love, 16 sets to love, and 76 "games to 35. The visiting ladies were superior all round, especially in the doubles. Mrs "Hodges had hard luck in losing the second set against Miss Lloyd. The best match of the day was the Grny-Howe contest, which was full of hard hitting and attractive play. The junior champion had 5-3 in the first set, but suffered bad patches. Mias Gray was undoubtedly the most stylish and attractive of the visitors. Results: — Miss Lance bent Mrs Scott Watson, 6—3, 6—l; Mrs Lascellos boat Miss MacFarlane, 61. 7 —sj Miss Gray beat Miss Howe, 75, 6-4; Miss Lloyd beat Mrs Hodges, 6 — 2, 6 — 4.
