At the Herrin massacre trials at Marion, witnesses for the defence testified that Otis Clark, one of the defendants, urged the mob not to use violence upon the captured mine guards. He said if they were killed it would be the worst thing that ever happened to the united mine workers of America, and he would in no wav participate in an attack upon the guards. Pour State witnesses have received warnings to retract their testimony under threat of death.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
