Their Excellencies the Governor-general and Viscountess Jellicoe, who wore the guests of Sir Edwin and Lady Mitcholso.il at Motutara, Muriwai, for the week end. returned to Government House, Auckland, on Monday. The Hon. Myrtle Jellicoe is suffering from an attack of chickenpox and as a consequence is confined to her bed. The Mayor (Mr J. S. Douglas) has returned to Dunedin from Wellington. Mr C. R. Hoycock, A.M.1.M.E.. has been visiting Broad Bay for a fortnight. Mr J. T. F. Mitchell, Invercargill manager for Wright, Stephenson, and Co (Ltd.), is at present on a visit to the city. Mr V. T. Drew, general secretary of the local branch of tho Y.M.C.A., will return to Dunedin this morning by the Moeraki, from Australia. Mr W. J. senger by the through express yesterday afternoon for Invercargill. Air A. W. Lilly left for the north by tho second express yesterday. During his absence Miss Lorna Weatherbum will preside ac the organ at All Saints’ Church. Our London correspondent reports the death on November 27 of Mrs Bartleman. widow of Alexander Bartleman, late of Dunedin. Now Zealand friends will regret to know that she had a long illness. Mrs Bartleman passed away at The Bungalow, Brockenhurst. Mr and Airs C. H. APLoin, of Mornington, and their two daughters, who left some 10 months ago for a holiday visit to Scotland and the Continent, returned to Dunedin yesterday by the first express from Lyitolton. Mr F. Larcnmbe. supervisor of the parcels branch of the Invercargill Chief Post Office, will shortly retire on superannuation. Air Larcoinbe will sever his connection with

the department on January 31. and will then go on annual and retiring leave. The retiring officer has had a lengthy experience, most of it having been spent in the Christchurch and Dunedin offices. The Rev. L. S. Kempthorne. who has been appointed to the future bishopric of Polynesia, is a son of Archdeacon Kompthorne. of the Nelson diocese, and brother of the Rev. M. Kempthorne, tho vicar of tho Pohanginn parochial district. Ho has done n. considerable’ amount of missionary work in West. Equatorial Africa, and has lately been working in the Straits Settlements. He served in England for several years as domestic chaplain to Dr Kempthorno. Bishop of Lichfield. The death occurred at Broad Bay, lasr. Tuesday, of Mrs Martha Dohbic. aged 64 years, wife of Mr Edward Dohbie. late station master at Dunedin. Air and Mrs Dohbie wore enrlv settlers of Otago, and wore married in 1878 by Dr Roseby of the Congregational Church. After Air Dnhhie’s retirement from the Government :-orvice they settled at. Broad Ray. where they have lived for the Inst three years. Deceased is survived by five sons (all of whom saw active service) and five daughters.
