A large albatross made its appearance in (ho harbour off (ho Gladstone pier, Lyttelton. on Tuesday, and spent some hours swimming about. The bird appeared to b© sick, ns it could fly only short distances (says the Press). It was what is known as a “Wanderer” albatross, as distinct from the ‘‘Royal” albatross. A young penguin, which was swimming about the wharves on the same day, was the subject of much interest, and its feats of diving and under-water swimming, clearly seen in the shaded water beneath the wharves, were admired by a number of spectators.
