The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Ltd.) has received the following cablegram from its London house, under date January 5: New Zealand butter and cheese, 6s per cwt higher. CHRISTCHURCH, January 9. Business ie still quiet, and so far no new season’s stuff has made its appearance. The cutting of wheat and oats is being carried out in various parts of Canterbury, and the threshing of ryegrass has commenced, the . first offerings of which are expected to bo fairly poor, as is usually the case. With regard to cocksfoot on the Peninsula, reports are that the crop this season will be a poor one. One of the reasons for this is that fog and goose graes have become mixed with the cocksfoot to quite a considerable extent. . , . So far very few potatoes have come forward, and only a little forward business has bjan done,
