/ The News of the World states that no importance is attached to the intervention of the woman who appeared in the Probate Court for the of entering a caveat against the will of the late Lord Northcliffe. It is understood that the real obstacle to settlement is the clause in the first will providing that should Lady Norths cliff© marry again portion of her share of the estate should pass to others. Under the last will, which has not been put forward for probate, Lady Northoliffe would have her share without limitation. She now claims to receive it under the firs® will untrammelled by the • condition referred to; but certain beneficiaries, who W'ould derive further benefit in the event of her marrying again, object. It is hoped that the parties will bo able to adjust their differences before the hearing is resumed. On being told at his club that sand J procured from beneath lupins on the beach made a fine loam for a seed bed, a New Plymouth resident who had obtained Boiho ' seeds of a rare plant decided to try the experiment in rearing the seedlings (si£a the Taranaki Herald). He procured the necessary sand, planted the seeds, and in, ... the course of time was rewarded with a luxurious growth. The horticulturist devoted much time to weeding his plants, and, judging by their healthy appearance, the experiment was a great success. Soon they became big enough to transplant to the border, where they thrived rapidly; but, alas, the, day soon came when he discovered that the offspring he had fostered so long was a species of ink weed. ,He had culled out his choice seedlings.
