The oil righto recently obtained over the ■whole of Macedonia by the Anglo-Persian Oil Company, which is controlled and chiefly owned by the British Government/. seem, likely to come into international prominence in the near future. It will bo remembered these rights were acquired • through the perseverance of Mr G*. L., Tacon (Christchurch), 'who realised the great possibilities _of the area when he was in the country' during the war. . 1; Several additional important oil seepages distributed over a wide area have recently been discovered. A strong geological party is* being despatched to Macedonia by tha Anglo-Persian Company at the end of this month, which will be accompanied by_Mr Tacon as a director of tho concent. This . first party is to bo followed about a month later by a second, in which will bo tha chief geologist of the company. If, as is confidently expected, tho researches of these geologists warrant it, drilling for oil will be undertaken at the earliest moment, and should oil in commercial. quantity bo developed in Macedonia, Britain will have the only oilfield in the Mediterranean on the . world's greatest trade route, and its fuel ** *■ • supply there will be assured.
