HAWKE’S BAY CHAMPIONSHIPS. LADIES’ TEAM TO PLAY NEW SOUTH WALES. (Pm United Press Association.) HASTINGS, January 3. Tho selectors of the New Zealand ladies’ representative team to play the New South Wales team at Wellington on January 12 and 33 have announced tho following team of four, in order of merit: —Miss MacFarlane, Mrs Scott Watson, Mrs Hodges, and Miss Howe; emergencies, Miss Fenwick and Miss Snow Clark. Owing to the continuous rain on Tuesday the xiawke's Bay tennis championship tour namont was postponed until to-day. The courts were very heavy, but improved considerably during the day. The entries were very large. The semi-finals and finals will not be reached until tho end of tho week. Tho New South Wales ladies are engaged in all tho events. TOURNAMENT AT WANGANUI. (P*b United Press Association.) WANGANUI, January 3. The Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association's tournament was continued to-day in ideal conditions. In the Men’s Singles Championship, in the third round, Rollings, a young player from Lyall Bay, obtained a weP deserved win from Lampe. His first set was 6—l, and he was five times within one point of winning the second set, but by overcareful play he failed to score. The third set was very even, Rollings winning 6—4. Wallace played safely through two further rounds of the singles with little effort, and will meet Andrews, tho New Zealand boy chamnion, in the semi-final of the Championship Singles. Andrews had an easy victory over Dr Allison, Waitara, in the third round of the Chemnkmship Singles. The Ladies’ Championship Singles provided good tennis throughout, although tho entries were small. Miss Ballantyne (Southland), after defeating Miss M’Laren (present Otago champion), played Mrs Bogle in the semi-finals in the morning. Both ladies hit hard and placed well, the game being an even one. A good gam© is expected in the final between Mrs Melody (Wellington) and Miss Ballantyne (Southland). When play ceased the principal events stood as follows: MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. Fourth Round.—Wallace beat Andrews, G—4, 6—4; Pease beat Melody, 6—3, 6—4. MIXED CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES. Fourth Round.—Dr Allison and Miss Ballantyne beat Melody and Miss Allen, 6—3, C—3; Pease and Miss M'Laren beat Atmore and Dr Atmore, 6—l, fi—2; Pease and Miss M’Laren beat Hill and Mias Wilson, 6—3, 6—3. LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. Miss Ballantyne beat Mrs Bogle, 6—2 , G—4; Miss Melody boat Dr Atmore by de?‘ fault. In tbe Men’s Championship Doubles Lampe and Pease will now play Dickie and Wallace. In the final of the Ladies’ Championship Doubles the Misses Allen beat Miss Bland and Dr Atmore, 6—5, 6—o.
