LOUIS BENNISON SEASON
A now star, Louts Bennison, who is famous on both Iho stage arid screen, in three new plays, “Johnny Got Your (fun, ‘The Lady of My Dreams,” and "The Great I,over,” and a specialty organised J. C. Williamson Company tire the next attractions at fit's Majesty’s Theatre, commencing on Friday. January 12. The American romantic actor, Louis Bennison. will make his first appearance here as Johnny Wiggins (cowboy and gentleman), in the comedy-drama, “Johnny. Got Your Gun.” Air Louis Bennison placed the lending role for over three years in America, where he scored everywhere a big hit, and his success in Australia was instantaneous and emphatic. Ho is supported by one of the strongest casts the firm of J. G. Williamson have yet sent to Now Zealand, Many well remembered by theatre-goers are Marjorie Bennett, George Blunt, Dorothy Seacombe, George Bryant. J. B. Atholwood. Leslie Victor. Marie Eaton. Nellie Mortvne. Gwen Burroughs. TI. 11. Wallace, Lillian Nightingale. Among the newcomers are Roger Barry, Robert la. Homans. Phyllis Laurence. Leonard Nugent, Lou Vernon, and A. Barbaras. An Auckland paper, in commenting on the success the plav and Mayers scored in that oilv. savs; “With Louis Bennison as Johnnv Wiggins is the (piaintest conceit, in character acting that we have had for a long time. Last night was indeed a night of. laughter at His Majesty's Theatre. Vet there were tense moments when the large audience was thrilled by the most unexpected situations. ‘Johnny. Get Your Gun’ is just the most delightful and breezy comedy we have had for years.” Similar comments 10 the above have been accorded the play and plavers throughout its successful four of Australasia. The play will be staged ■Jrsr three, ’nights oinly, followed by a drama of absorbin'* interest, “The Lady of Mv Dreams.” This play created a sensation in both Wellington and Christchurch, and is being presented to local theatregoers before London and New York see it. The story is of the romantic period in Italy manv years ago when men and women who loved did so as if they meant it. the passions and loves of the period are truly depicted. The third and last production is a romantic comedy-drama. “The Great Lover.” a fascinating story, written arottnd the lives of people in that alluring, makebelieve land, the Grand Opera Statte. Here one meets people of a now world that is quaint and curious to those unfamiliar with it. The lives of these people, full of passion, romance, love, and hoheminnism. lends itself to a delightful story. The plans for the seven nights’ season will be opened on Wednesday next at. the Bristol.
