(Per United Press Association.) TIMARU, January 2. The second day of the Caledonian Society’s sports attracted another large attendance, and excellent sport was seen. Cycling was especially keen. O’Shea won tho two-mile scratch race, Sill, of Christchurch, tho halfmile, Hoffman (Gore) the mile and a-half, and Birch (Christchurch) tho mile. In the last race O’Shea, from scratch, put up a record for the track, the time being 2min 3 l-ssec. Tho hundred yards sprint resulted in a dead-heat between Harris (Dunedin) and David (Pleasant Point). Tho 220yds also went to David, Trembath being third from scratch. The half-mile was won by Miller (Motukarara), and the mile went to Mathieson (Southland) from scratch. Piping, jigs, and hornpipes (New Zealand championship), J. A. Cameron (Mataura). WELLINGTON, January 2. The Wellington Rifle Association’s annua, prize meeting was concluded to-day. There was a large number of entries, and some good shooting was witnessed. The champion teams’ match waa won by Petone (579) 1 Karori No. 1 (55(5) came next, and Karori No. 2 (552) came third. Eight others competed. The following is the championship aggregate:—H. R. The committee, in redrafting the Dams Cup regulations, agreed that travelling expenses were only permissible for three members of each team. If, the receipts at anv time are insufficient to meet the expenses the country where the matches are played shall bear the deficiency. If any nation defaults after approving of the arrangements it must pay all its opponents’ expenses to the date of the default. Tho American athletes visited the sports at Paraparaunan, but did not take part in any serious contests. Merchant, without anr trouble, threw the hammer 161 ft, which is 13ft 5Jm above the Australasian record. Munro’s throw was only 109 ft tin. The New Zealander, however, is a better shot putter than the American, who was nearly 2ft under Munro’fi 43ft.
