THE SMUGGLING EVIL. PROHIBITION OFFICERS* SUGGESTION. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyrignt NEW YORK, January 2. (Received Jan. 2, at 10.30 p.m.) The New York Tribune’s Washington correspondent is responsible for a report that certain prohibition leaders have inquired of the British Government whether it will surrender the West Indies as part of the cancellation of the debt due to the United States. Great Britain indignantly refused. The prohibition officers are desirous of stopping the vast smuggling of liquors into the United States which nowproceeds via the West Indies. An attempt will also be made in connection with the French West Indies for the same reasons.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
