SANDERS CUP TRIALS

. LAST OF THE SERIES. WON BY HEATHER. The seventh test of the series of races to decide which boat was to represent Otago in the Sanders Cup races at Auckland was sailed on the Otago Yacht Club’s course yesterday afternoon. A full sail breeze prevailed, with just about as much wind as the boats could stagger under. Wmifrea crossed the line first, followed by Agnes, Mona, Heather, Yalmai, Eunice, with lona last. After turning the three-leg mark Heather took, the lead in making for Grant’s Braes, then came Eunice, Mona, lona, Winifred, Yalmai, and Agnes. A fter heavy going in the thrash to Turnbull’s Bend, Heather still maintained the load. The wind dropping slightly, lona assumed second position, with Winifred next, then Mona. Eunice, and lona, and Agnes and Yalmai well in the rear. From here the_ fleet got a • load, standing into the retaining wall, almost making the buoy at Challis’s in one board. Heather was the first to turn the mark, then lona, but Winifred made the buoy just before lona, closely followed by Mona and Eunice. Mona got to weather, and rounded ahead of Eunice, Eunice having to make another short tack to turn the mark. Agnes had gained considerably, and got round before Yalmai. The fleet, as each boat got clear of the buoy, had spinnakers run, out, but the first three boats ran before the wind, sailing a race all to themselves. Heather rounded the boat harbour mark first, with Winifred and lona still about the same distance apart. The boats continued in the same' order right throughout tha second round, with the exception of Yalmai, as she withdrew after sailing the first round. Heather, after sailin a great rate with Winifred, crossed the home line first, winning, by only 25 seconds. lona w as third, and Mona fourth, while Eunice and Agnes were fifth and sixth, but well to the rear.
