In New York two persons were killed and 18 wounded during indiscriminate shooting in welcoming the new year in. There were 70 arrests of violators of the prohibition law, 57 arrests of hoodlums and intoxicated persons, 18 cases of serious alcoholism, and 15 serious automobile accidents. The made heroic efforts to stop the drinking in restaurants and in thousands of outlying place.! where the celebrations were expected. Washington saw 170 persons arrested for intoxication.
