BOWLING TOURNAMENT

FINAL DELAYED BY RAIN. The bowlers’ Christmas rinks competition was to have been concluded on the Dnnoclin Green yesterday, but the heavy rain which et in about 5.20 p.m. necessitated the a-han-lonment of the final game, which will be finished this morning on the same green, beginning at 9 o’clock. The issue lies between Hutchison (Dunedin) and Portman (West Harbour). When play was stopped -esterday the score wa» 14 -9 in Dunedin s favour, with eight heads to go. and, judging by yesterday’s form, Dunedin has the better ’banco of winning the tournament. There was' a fair attendance of spectators when ho game began at 3.30 p;m., the Mayor (Mr J. S. Douglas) being- 'among the visitors. The green was showing the effect of the heavy min on Wednesday night when Hutchison (Dunedin) and Silver (West Harbour) played off in the forenoon for the dtle of the North-East Valley Green, but ’ven then it was in surprisingly good conlition. and the standard of bowling throughout the day was worthy of the occasion, the forenoon game and the semi-final, how>ver, were disappointing from a spectator’s noint of view, as the issue was never in doubt in either case. Hutchison defeated silver 22 —10, and met Simpson’s Anderson’s Say rink in the semi-final at 12.45 p.m. The latter had been bowling consistently all Trough the tournament nnd the spectators "night well have expected a better finish L o their career. The final lav between Hutchison and Portuan (West Harbour).
