On _ the slopes of Mount Egmont and also in the Tongariro National Park seed berries of the whortleberry end the blueberry from Canada, are to be planted. The blueberry, it is reported, is already growing prolifically in the Oropi Valley, between Rotorua and Tauranga. The seeds for Mount Egmont and the National Park are a portion of a valuable consignment which Mr J. W, Boynton, S.M., handed to tho council of the plant branch of tha Auckland Acclimatisation Society for distribution. . A bunch of purple Scottish bell heather, from Tongariro National Park, was in,evidence at the last meeting of the council of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society. It was brought by Mr J. Cullen, senior warden of the National Park, and evoked a good deal of interest. There are some 2000 acres of heather in the park, but only a portion at present in bloom.
