An American farmer, being open to conversion, decided to find out for himself whether pure-bred hogs paid. He put in separate pens a pure-bred pig,’a grade and a razor-back, all of approximately the same ago. He fed all three on the seme kind of ration, with an eye to marketing them at the same time, and at the end of 96 days the pure-bred hod gained 87)h, the grade 731 b, and the razor-back 4Slb. Tho purebred was the only one that shewed ( a profit. A pure-bred generally pays for its keep, whereas tho owner often pays for the doubtful privilege of keeping the scrub. A fraction of a "rain of musk will scent a room for year's, and tho curious thing about it is that at the end of that time its weight is not diminished by the smallest fraction. ______________________
