Tho Hon. J. A. Hanan, M.P. for Invercargill, arrived last evening on a short visit to the city. • Messrs A. 11. Thomson and T. G. Kinney loft yesterday for Christchurch to attend the conference of the New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association. Mr T. M. M'Donald, 8.A., son of Mr D. M. M'Donald, Mataura, has been appointed resident master on the staff of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School. Prior to her departure for the north, Miss ■ Netta Keates received a. presentation of a gold-mounted fountain pen from her junior dancing classes. Miss Iris Keates was also the recipient of a solid leather suitcase. Mr H. Coop, who Inis been traffic inspector for the Railway Department at Dunedin for some time, has been promoted to tho position of chief passenger clerk at the Dunedin station, in succession to Mr H. P. Stanaway, who has been promoted to goods agent at Dunedin. Acting Professor Launcelot Harrison has been appointed to the chair of zoology m the University of Sydney, and Associate Professor John Hunter has received an appointment as professor of anatomy. Pro--fessor .Hunter, who is only 24 years of ago, is at present in America on his way back, to i Sydney. Advice has been received that Mr Win. F. Barker, only son of Mr W. T. Barker, of Ilavonsbourne, has been appointed to the Dosition of inspector of aviation landing stages in Australia. Mr Barker recently distinguished himself aa clerk in charge of the erection of a wireless station on Willis Island, for the purpose of warning vessels of approaching cyclones. After tho war fin which he served with the A.1.F., gaining the D.C.M.), he settled in Australia, holding various positions in the Federal Government. Fis present position entails the inspection of all aerodromes hi the various States.
