BOARD OF HEALTH

MEETING IN WELLINGTON. (Pbb United Peess Association.) WELLINGTON, December 13. A meeting of the Board of Health was held in Wellington to-day. The Hon. .0. J. Parr (Minister of Public Health) presided. The question of carrying out the recommendations of the recent commission on Maternity Albrtality was discussed, and some interesting figures were furnished by the Health Department showing the number of deaths from puerperal septicaemia, and how they were distributed between the public hospitals, private hospitals, and private homes. Statistics indicated that much the larger proportion of maternity mortality occurred when confinement's took place in u private home. The board decided to ask the department for further information, with regard to the inspection of such cases. The recent report on Venereal Diseases, furnished by a Committee of the board was also discussed at some length. The board was unanimous in adopting the report, and eulogistic references were made to the good work done by tho Hon. W. H. Triggs (chairman), and the other members of the committee.

A resolution was passed recommending the Government to legislate as early as possible on the lines laid down in the report, which includes a recommendation that notification in V.D. cases be made compulsory.
