MISHAP AT SEA

STEAMER ON EISH ROCK. THE CREW RESCUED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SAN FRANCISCO, December 12. A crew of 55 is aboard the rapidlvfilling steamer Orteric, which stranded on Fish Rock, 70 miles north of San Francisco, during a fog. Two rescue steamers are standing by. The Orteric was bound for Eureka to load lumber for the Orient. A later message states that the Orteric’s crew is being transferred to the steamer Cotton Plant. The vessel is high on the rocks, and her holds are filled. She will be abandoned. Her Oriental crew have been -transferred. The whites are standing by.—A. and N.Z. Cable. [The Orteric is a steel steamer of 6535 tons gross register. She was built by Messrs Russell and 00. at Port Glasgow in 1911, and is owned by the Bank -tune, Ltd.
